Why not get a Solaris x86 CD and boot in single-user mode on the PC? If the
filesystem is one Solaris understands, then you should be able to mount it
or fsck it and then mount it to see what it contains. Should a good fsck be
what it needs, then you can pull this off and then put it back into the
original machine to see what happens.
