I have not tried CD writers but external disks on Firewire does not work
well for me, S10 U1. The machine core dumps now and then so I use the
USB interface instead.

Hmm, there is a blog on Sun of a Sun Eng that do some Firewire work now
for camera and more but I have forgot the address.
