Does the server use NIS? Do you have /etc/netgroup? (man netgroup for
details). Might not hurt to try it ..

Just guessing ... looks strange to me! More details on your server
config and whether other Linux boxen can mount the disk, would help
others help you ... my arrow is shot :-)
