Depending on the upgrade notes from AIX 5.3 you might have not to do
an exportvg.
If you do an exportvg keep the PVID and the VG name for reference so
you all information for an later importvg.
Meaing:
Deinstall all EMC Software incl. NAVI and reinstall after migration at
least the NAVAGENT and if needed the NAVICLI packages

Additional Note:

Since AIX 5.3 supports MPIO by default you should verify if you go
Native AIX mpio : Then you should install ODM package:
EMC.CLARiiON.fcp.MPIO.rte
This shows the disk handled by AIX as EMC ... and not as "other FC
Disk"
MPIO will bundle all pathes to a hdisk to one hdisk.

EMC PowerPath 5.1.0.0 : Then you should install ODM Package:
EMC.CLARiiON.fcp.rte
This package disabled the MPIO Support. So for each path to a disk you
will have an hdisk entry. PowerPath must be used

On a VIO Server you need the ODM Package: Package
EMC.CLARiiON.fcp.PowerMPIO.rte

Check on powerlink the failover modes for MPIO versus Powerpath
