I had quite some problems with mine, too. You can search google for
my postings to c.u.s. for details.

Installing the newest firmware is definitely the first thing to try,
if you haven't done so yet.

At the end in my case it turned out to be a hardware issue; after
having Sun sending me replacements for the controllers, the terminator
module and the SCSI I/O module as a last resort I asked them to send
me a new chassis (including midplane/backplane), and all the problems
magically disappeared.

That was my impression, too. But at least they happily sent new
parts within one day whenever I requested them.
