I got similar error messages when I tried running alsaconf with my OSS
modules loaded. If I recall, doing a modprobe -r soundcore esssolo1
prior to running alsaconf fixed things. I had to add the appropriate
line to etc/hotplug/blacklist so that the OSS module wouldn't be
reloaded in future. (The line was in the blacklist.new file I just
copied it over.)
