Default gnome screwed up

I was playing UT2003 and all the sudden I had to JAM on the keyboard keys to
make it do anything...

then I quit UT and get into gnome2 and all the sudden the same keyboard problem
is sticking around. to do anything which involves the keyboard I had to sit
there holding the button for 2-3 seconds before it inputs anything. mouse is
fine. I quit gnome, get into the console, no typing problem. figure it's X
related. fire up KDE to test, no typing problem. gnome related. fire up
IceWM, which I use for my window manager in gnome, no typing problem. reboot,
just to see what happens. still have the problem in gnome. try starting gnome
with root, no problem what so ever. So I've limited it to a problem with users
gnome properties. I removed my ~/.gnome2 dir (well, mv'ed it to somewhere else)
and the problem persisted. I can't think of anything to help. I tried messing
with gnome control panel but it just took over keyboard control.

I need help with this ASAP
