He's been around since Wed May 8 23:03:11 PDT 2002 when this entry
showed up in the Changelog:
:New Entry: a/etc-5.0-i386-2.tgz: Added smmsp and pop to /etc/shadow.

Try to do a 'su' and as root run 'less /etc/shadow' to see how many
users you've got.
