In alt.os.linux.slackware, Rich Grise dared to utter,
> But I didn't _want_ to post to alt.test, because a.o.l.s is the group
> I wanted to post to, and I wasn't sure if google would post to an
> alt group.
Don't you see the complete lack of logic in the above statement?
Ooh! I want to post to alt.os.linux.slackware, but I don't know if
google will let me post to an alt group. I should do a test post to
see!
Hmm.... there's alt.test, but I want to post to alt.os.linux.slackware.
I'll just be lazy and post the test message there.
Rich, some of the things you do are good (the Norman Rockwell Bob Dobbs
was simply inspired!), but a lot of the things you do are bad. Posting
test messages to non test newsgroups is ignorance at best, foolish at
worst. That's why we have alt.test and others like it after all.
A few people who's opinions I hold in high regaurd have spoken
postively of you, and I'd hate to see their opinions change by such
poor netiquette. I recommend you google for usenet netiquette, and read
ESR's "How to Ask Questions the Smart Way" essay (google this newsgroup
for links, I think Guy Macon posted one recently). Slow down a little
bit in how often you ask questions of others, and instead ask them of
yourself.
It's a well known fact that the answer to almost any slackware question
can be found right on your computer if you just know where to look.
Next time you have a question, try looking in these places in this
order.
