For the record, Pat has never complained once about the Revised
Slackware Book Project hosted on my web server (and before that,
Carl's server). We quite clearly on the front page say that Slackware
and linux are registered trademarks... blah blah blah. I think that if
you go ahead with this, he may feel that you're stepping on his toes
and just elect not to do anything about it, but I wouldn't bet on that.
The safe and proper thing to do is change the name to something that's
obviously not offiliated with Slackware.

The aforementioned website is slackbook.lizella.net, and as such could
be a book about just about anything. Until you visit the site you don't
know what it's about, and as soon as you visit it you are told that
this is an unofficial, unaffiliated with Slackware project.

Slax (www.slax.org) used to be www.slackware-live.org, but Pat enforced
his trademark rights and Tomas (I believe that's the guy's name, too
lazy to google) gave in after awhile. Pat had asked that the name be
changed, and that he preferred that it not even begin with "Sl". IIRC,
without any further coorespondence with Pat, Tomas changed the name to
Slax and nothing's been said about it since.

So there you have it; two opposite yet strangely related projects (both
are based off a product that Slackware Linux Inc. sells after all),
both with different results. I think the results are largely due to the
way the participants handled things. In my case, I wrote Pat and
explained what we were doing, and he even offered some modest
assistance. I don't think Tomas went through with that, but if he had
e-mailed Pat and discussed it beforehand, perhaps he wouldn't have gone
through the awkward name change period.
