for something as sensitive as mplayer, I would recommend the build script at
http://www.slackbuilds.org. Many people have reported that mplayer seems to
run a lot better when compiled on the machine it's intended to run on.
Both the codecs and the player are available from
http://www.slackbuilds.org/repository/12.0/multimedia/, and the MPlayer
SlackBuild installs the Blue skin.
