| Hello people, A few days ago I received a 44P with preinstalled AIX 5L. So far I was able to connect via terminal emuolation from my PC. During the startup the Configuration Assistant comes up. However I finished without any changes - which was a big mistake. So I reached the login prompt without knowing the password for the root user as I haven't changed it. I have tried already several once like password or PASSW0RD, ... but no success. So the question is does someone know what the default password is or how to start the onfiguration assistant a second time without installing the OS. Thanks Gerold ;-) |

Just log in as root and hit enter at the password prompt (there shouldn't even be a password prompt). I don't remember just where the configuration assisstant is -- try smit, then System Configuration (I think . . . don't have a system running here at home to look at). If you do have a root password and can't figure it out, boot in maintenance mode from the CD and pick the option to "start a root session after mounting filesystems" -- then vi /etc/passwd and delete the '!' from root's entry. Save, reboot, and root will no longer have a password. Tom |

You should be able to start the configuration assistant by entering /usr/bin/configassist. -Peter Ferrara, AIX Administrator Ferrara@URI.Edu |
