| Hi all, Does anyone have the hardware manuals that came with these systems? I got a hold of three of them, but have not been able to find the manuals anywhere on the 'net. There's plenty of references to them, though, spec-wise. :/ Thanks, -- DN Daniel Note: email address rot13'd |

| Hi, Could you give us first six SN Numbers like 7012-44 or 7009-44. | Probably a model 250 means a 7011-250? The manuals for these should be somewhere here in the company, but only the ones for the 7013-520 and AIX 3.2 are just behind my back. Only online manuals availiable are these: http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver...hardware_docs/ Whadda you wanna know? Yup. Didn't see the 250 manuals there. :/ I recently got 3 of those systems, but I have no documentation for them, so I'd like to know stuff like: What types of memory it can take. The types of hard drives/peripherals it can use. The types of connectors it has -- I don't recognize the terminal connector. etc. Any information pertaining to them would be useful. Oh, yeah... this is going to sound a bit stupid, but... How do I open it? Either I'm missing some obvious latch/screw/level/button, or all three units are welded shut. For some reason, the latter doesn't seem very likely. Thanks for any help, -- DN Daniel |

The 7011-250 is a microchannel machine. If you snag the "Adapters, Devices, and Cable Information for Micro Channel Machines" from the ibm pseries hardware documentation webisite posted earlier you may be able to find your memory listed there. Any off the shelf Single Ended SCSI Hard drive should work. Needs 50 pin interface. Try to keep the drives to 4.0GB or below as that IMO is the breakover point for reliability with these guys. However if you can stick with IBM RS6000 qualified drives (originally available only from ibm, which you should be able to find in the used markets) the reliability is even better. > The types of connectors it has -- I don't recognize the terminal connector. > etc. As above it is MicroChannel. The terminal connector? There are two DB25-RS232 ports on the machine. Use S1 if you have a dumb terminal to attach. There is one DB25-Parallel port. There is an DB15-AUI Ethernet port (looks like a game port on a PC) below the parallel port. There will be an external SCSI connector belos the card slots. Some of these models had (S)VGA adapters and it's connection > > Any information pertaining to them would be useful. The 7011 service guide is still purchasable from ibm: 7011 SERVICE GUIDE (SA23-2665-05) (cost is around $32.00) > > Oh, yeah... this is going to sound a bit stupid, but... > > How do I open it? Question. Did you get the keys with them? If you don't have the keys you will have to pry them open. Key needs to be placed in the service postion then the plastic tab in the back needs to be pushed down. Then the inside chasis should slide out the front of the case. Without a key you will need to use a flat blade screwdriver (a heavy duty one) to pry up the metal case where the metal case meets the plastic front bezel until the lock latch will clear when pulling the chasis out the front. You will bugger up the case doing this and the case will never fit real well again. > > Either I'm missing some obvious latch/screw/level/button, or all three units > are welded shut. For some reason, the latter doesn't seem very likely. These guys are old and although the clock speed is slow they aren't too bad of a little machine. Have a couple myself that are rather fun to tinker around with aid in my further learning of AIX. Have Fun. > > Thanks for any help, > > -- DN > Daniel |

| Take a look here: http://webpages.charter.net/ohlandl/...ry_matrix.html You can probably find the memory information you need there. CT |

The 3 connectors in the back are for mouse, keyboard, and terminal -- and they all look the same aside the label on them. It's definately not 13W3 by the looks of it. >> Oh, yeah... this is going to sound a bit stupid, but... >> >> How do I open it? > >Yes, this is pretty hard. Ergh. Okay, so I *do* have to force it, then. Putting it into service and removing keys, still didn't come out that smooth so I was afraid of breaking something... >Under the cover you have a protective sheet of metal with blocking screws on >the side.
