| The hardware is Ultra-10 with the 333 mhz processor and 512 MB The openboot version is 3.31 ( latest ) The SCSI controller is the SUN LVD symbios PCI card The SCSI controller is the only one present. The SCSI disk is a Seagate 73 GB disk. At the ok prompt "probe-scsi-all" sees the disk, no problem. boot -r and/or touch reconfigure reboot leave it un-configured in devices and /dev. Booting from CD it is not offered as an installation option. So the process of reconfiguring STILL doesn't get past the ide boot disk, even from the cdrom. Is the only answer to remove the ide hardware, get a SCSI CDROM and build an all SCSI system? Or perhaps I just scrap the system and buy a cheap intel box and install Red-Hat? I am a long-time user and admin for these boxes, but this is ridiculous. respectfully BJ |

You need to download the device-driver from sun. Its not on Solaris 8/9 CDs unfortuntely. It may be included in Solaris 9 4/03 (or later) and Solaris 8 12/02 (or later). /wfr Fredrik >respectfully >BJ > -- Fredrik Lundholm dol @ ce.chalmers.se |

| Do you have any idea where they hide these things? I have searched sunsolve for all manner of drivers and found no references to this sort of update for 2.9, there's a 2.8 patch 108974 which is sort of related, but I don't think I want to try to force it on a 2.9 box... respectfully BJ Fredrik Lundholm wrote: > In article <3F21B219.5020906@jpl.nasa.gov>, > BJ Chippindale <Bruce.J.Chippindale@jpl.nasa.gov> wrote: > >>The hardware is Ultra-10 with the 333 mhz processor and 512 MB >>The openboot version is 3.31 ( latest ) >>The SCSI controller is the SUN LVD symbios PCI card >>The SCSI controller is the only one present. >>The SCSI disk is a Seagate 73 GB disk. >> >>At the ok prompt "probe-scsi-all" sees the disk, no problem. >> >>boot -r and/or touch reconfigure reboot leave it un-configured >>in devices and /dev. > > > You need to download the device-driver from sun. > Its not on Solaris 8/9 CDs unfortuntely. > It may be included in Solaris 9 4/03 (or later) and Solaris 8 12/02 (or > later). > > /wfr > Fredrik > > >>respectfully >>BJ >> > > > |

| Thanks - Installed it. It still doesn't work but at least I FOUND it :-). I suspect that there is a different driver needed to match the specific card, but I haven't managed to tickle it out. The bizarre thing is that the system sees tape drives just fine, and the card and bios see the disk just fine. I am wondering if there is a driver for the disk itself somewhere. This isn't supposed to be so bloody difficult... respectfully BJ Fredrik Lundholm wrote: > In article <3F256572.406@jpl.nasa.gov>, > BJ Chippindale <Bruce.J.Chippindale@jpl.nasa.gov> wrote: > >>Do you have any idea where they hide these things?
