| Good afternoon, I have a number of U160 and U320 drives of varying sizes 18g-74g. In my Netra's they all have 18g drives and my Ultra 1 has the 2.1g drives it shipped with. I would like to use larger drives as 2.1g drives really limit the usefulness of the Ultra1 (and 18g on the Netra for that matter) but when I tried installing a 74g Ultra320 SCA-2 drive on the netra it was generating "Magic Number Errors" as well as I/O errors. As best as I can tell the SCSI bus on the Ultra 1 and Netra are both SCSI2. What is the newest type of drive I can use in these? i was under the impression from reading that SCSI was 100% backwards compatible with the only exception being differential SCSI (which i believe the ultra 1 may have so what kind of newish drive and i looking for there or what adapter am I looking for). I have openboot 3.10.24 i believe on the Netra UltraSPARC-IIi-cEngine. The Ultra 1 is in the mail so i have not yet tested it yet. I attempted the install with 2.9Sparc 12/02 but I also received 8/03 in the mail recently. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Jesse Geddis |

There should be a jumper on the drive labeled "SE/LVD" to something to that effect. Run the drive in SE mode and it should work. Jim -- ----------------------- Jim balson AT comcast DOT net |

(I recently picked up a used Ultra-2 and thought it only had 2 HD bays that used SCA drives) -- * Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which * * differ from the prejudices of their social environment. I have 2 4.3g drives internally. Jim -- ----------------------- Jim balson AT comcast DOT net |
