Default Sun part number question

Hi all,

Can someone explain how Sun organizes their part numbers?

From what I have seen, everything seems to have various ways to designate a
part. As an example, a 64 MB DIMM for an Ultra is option X7003A and has a
manufacturing part number of 501-2480. But a 64 MB DIMM for an Enterprise
220R has the same option number and manufacturing number with a top level
part number of 595-3812.

Or, for example, part number 501-5445 is a 400 MHZ CPU that Sunsolve lists
for an Ultra 2 and an Enterprise 250. But it lists it as "options 1193 /
1194". Other references list the X1193A for the Ultra and X1194A for the
Enterprise. And, other references list the 1193 option as part number 501-
5541 while option 1194 is part number 501-5237.

At what point does the part number and/or option number become specific to
a computer model? And why does one part number sometimes have two option
numbers? Or why do two part numbers have the same option number?

Thanks in advance for helping with my confusion.
