| I have all sorts of problem with this beast since we bought it and I want to know wether I am alone or not. After dealing with various battery problems, I now have to deal with other problems (not to mention the occasionnal SCSI/Gross phase error) a) Can't telnet to the 3310 anymore, can't ping it either. I can still use ssconsole. Only way to fix it is to reset the controllers (dual redundant) and that means I have to dismount the disks and shut down the applications b) Other problem: When I reset the 3310, for some reason, sometimes the host channels are operating in "asynch mode" and narrow after the reset. Is there a way to fix it ? Last time this happened, I had to shutdown the host as well ! That's quite flaky. I would not recommend the 3310 (Or dot-hill) product to my worst ennemy. Sun's support for that product is bad as well, it looks like they don't know this hardware more than I do. Any help appreciated. |

There's have been a number of problems with older firmware, but the current firmware (325W) is pretty much rock-solid, and does specifically address at least some of the problems you've listed. You can search google for my postings to c.u.s. for details. Installing the newest firmware is definitely the first thing to try, if you haven't done so yet. At the end in my case it turned out to be a hardware issue; after having Sun sending me replacements for the controllers, the terminator module and the SCSI I/O module as a last resort I asked them to send me a new chassis (including midplane/backplane), and all the problems magically disappeared. > Sun's support for that product is bad as well, it looks like they don't know > this hardware more than I do. That was my impression, too. But at least they happily sent new parts within one day whenever I requested them. mp. -- Systems Administrator | Institute for Software Science | Univ. of Vienna |

I've seen the 325W firmware an plan to install it next week. But I don't think it will fix the host channels becomming Narrow/Asynch. As for the telnet problem they mention in the patch readme (4988102) I can't find the bug description on sunsolve ! Right now, my opinion on the 3310 (at least OURS) is that it is an expensive pile of undebugged junk. We could as well put an "built by microsoft" sticker on it. Sad but true. |

Scott. |

Only had one drive go bad. I think they're OK. |
