Default Solaris CDE problem

Hi,

I have a Sunblade 100 with a Expert3D-Lite card. For some reason at boot time
the system does no start the X server, so no CDE login screen displayed.

As root I can type 'openwin' and that will fire up opewindows, but as a normal
user this fails.

In the /var/dt/Xerrors file I am seeing some messages like

'Server -auth cannot be executed'
'Server unexpectedly died'

Any ideas what to look for to try and fix this? The /etc/dt/config/Xservers file
is referencing the Expert3D card OK.

thanks

Keith

As root try /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e

Hi Michael, tried that, no change.

As root or as a user without any .xinitrc you can type 'xinit'
and the X server will come up, and typing 'dtwm' into the console
then gives you a CDE session. So its all rather strange.

Ensure you have keyboard and mouse connected.
Ensure you have installed the kernel driver for the Expert3D-Lite
(IMHO the SUNWifb* packages).

You normally don't need the

/etc/dt/config/Xservers

Probably you should temporarily disable (rename) it.

Yes, these are all OK. It can run X / CDE, but only if you start it manually.

Looks like you have a typo in the X invocation in your /etc/dt/config/
Xservers
file. Please post the contents of that file.
