Default DB2 Connect V8, Schema functions, and CLI driver

Hi! Is there any way to tell the CLI driver not to use a stored
procedure when a client requests information from the DB2 catalog on
z/OS (i.e. can it actually send up the SQL statement like it did prior
to version 8).

Perhaps I'm missing something, but why can't you just not use the CALL
statement and simply connect and then issue the SQL?
