Default XSane with user rights

Hello,

my scanner is a Canon 656U (USB).

If I'm a user, XSane/sane/sane-find-scanner (-v) can't detect my scanner
while those three work without any problems in superuser mode.

My system is a debian-sarge testing, XSane obtained from there is
revision 0.97.

Did I miss something? In /dev i don't have any usb devices, USBView
detects my scanner device with user rights without any problems.

Where do I have to chmod?

Thanks in advance
