Default Can't get GUI to work?

Hi all,

I have an HP Pavilion a305w. I have installed Ubuntu 5.04
on it and done a "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" both
at the command line when hooked to the Internet and both
commands executed fine.

Problem is the GUI will not start. It says X server will not
start since the graphics system is not defined correctly. I
tried a generic vesa driver and it didn't help. Is there a
command that I can use to configure my video subsystem
directly? Any feedback I can supply just ask.

thanks,
charles.....

Could you reproduce :

1. Contents of /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
2. Output of :

a) apt-show-versions | grep "x-window"
b) apt-show-versions | grep "kde" (or Gnome or enlightenment or whichever
wm / desktop environment you are using).

(You may need to install apt-show-versions using apt-get if you don't have
it.)

?
