Default How to check what hardware is available?

Hi!

As I'm having problems accessing my DVD, I'm wondering if the
DVD drive is properly connected.

To check, I switched to the boot prompted and typed probe-ide. I got:

{1} ok probe-ide
Device 0 ( Primary Master )
Not Present

Device 1 ( Primary Slave )
Not Present

Device 2 ( Secondary Master )
Not Present

Device 3 ( Secondary Slave )
Not Present

Hm - no DVD drive.

Next, I ran probe-scsi:

{1} ok probe-scsi
Target 0
Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST336607LSUN36G 0507
Target 1
Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST336607LSUN36G 0507

Hm²

Where is my DVD drive?

Should I start to panic?

First try probe-scsi-all

It also doesn't show the DVD drive. Just the two SCSI
disks, which the box has.

What type of system is it?

Then your DVD drive isn't connected to the system. Either it's not
working or the cable is bad or not compatible with a SPARC system.

I hope it's one of this.

I don't hope it's this, as we bought the box from Sun with DVD
drive. I *hope* that Sun doesn't sell hardware, which isn't compatible
to their stuff

Just a thought, but what if the DVD isn't a SCSI device. Suppose it's a
FCAL (unlikely) or IDE device. Does

probe-ide-all
probe-fcal-all

show anything?

If it's Sun Fire V240 then it's definitely IDE for the DVD-ROM.

The only thing I can think of is a bad DVD-ROM drive or a bad connector on
the slot it plugs into.
Does the DVD-ROM have power, i.e. can you press the eject button and get it
to pop open?
I've seen ones that wouldn't even eject.

Probably easiest to replace the drive or have Sun do it if it's still under
warranty.

The Buy button on Sun's website lists a $400 price tag for this DVD-ROM
drive.

probe-ide-all doesn't work. I pasted the output of probe-ide in my
OP

FC DVD drives? Is there such a thing? I admit, I didn't try this.
But I've got extreme doubts, that it is a FC drive - internal FC?

No.

To check, I switched to the boot prompted and typed probe-ide. I got:

{1} ok probe-ide
Â* Device 0 Â*( Primary Master )
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Not Present

Â* Device 1 Â*( Primary Slave )
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Not Present

Â* Device 2 Â*( Secondary Master )
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Not Present

Â* Device 3 Â*( Secondary Slave )
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Not Present
