Default cleaning clutter out of /dev/ after installing udev

hello,

i am looking to clean up my /dev/ directory after converting to udev
but do not know how.

i am not using devfs at all (it is not compiled into my kernel), and
i have tried deleting every device except for: console, null, and zero (based on
some online recommendation) but the system prompted for manual intervention
because /dev/hda1 (device of /) didnt exist.

thanks for the hints.
