Former FourGen users

If you want to get away from older versions of FourGen, be very wary of
approaching Gillani Inc for discussions. An old FourGen site from way back
made contact with them, culminating in Gillani Inc sending a solicitors
letter of demand for backpayment and demanding they cease and desist using
any software developed with the old FourGen tools until payment has been
made.

All this despite the fact that FourGen kissed off all the 4GL Case Tool
customers around-about the year 1995. Since then, there was no interest in
collecting licence fees, since that would imply continued support.

A few software houses bought complete rights to FourGen at that time to
protect their interests. The deal was that they may do what they please with
the source, but must not approach FourGen for further support or supply.
Some of these software houses went on to offer very close alternatives to
the FourGen 4GL Case Tools.

By all accounts, Gillani Inc appears to be attempting to bully a medium
sized site into paying fees that it has no rights to. Do not put yourself
into the same position.

Postscript

Gillani Inc, by admission of their website, bought FourGen in 1997, past the
time when FourGen ceased willing support of existing 4GL Case Tool
customers.
