Default boot problem

guys..

i have mandrake 10 on my hard disk - i just unstalled it. but the pc reports
no OS when i turn it on.

what must i do to make it boot.

i can still get in as i can boot and run MD 10 from a cd i have. (zoneminder
liveCD).

i guess the words boot loader or boot partition or master boot record will
be used in the answer but i definately do not understand what or where or
how that work.

thanks for any help!

jim

You mean 'installed', not 'unstalled'. At first glance it looks like
'uninstalled' but that would not make any sense...

What you need to do is configure and install a boot loader, like LILO or
GRUB. Normally this is suggested by the installer at some late stage in the
install process.

Either boot into your Linux from the Mandrake CDROM and install the boot
loader, or (preferable if you know little about Linux) reinstall the OS,
and make sure that you do not omit this step.

To me it looks like you have no OS on your disk anymore afer
uninstalling mandrake. Your BIOS is set such that it first boots an OS
on CD-ROM, then it boots from hard disk. If you want to be able to boot
from your HD again install an OS on it from CD-ROM, e.g. your Mandrake
