Default Unicode mapping

Is there a keyboard mapping utility for Unicode available under Linux?
I can use the character map to input individual characters and such, but
it's a really slow process. Most of the fonts I use (for Hebrew and
Greek scripts) come with *ugh* Windows keyboard mapping utilities, but
I'm using Fedora 2 with Gnome. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dave
