Default agpgart unable to get minor 175

I've recently installed Slackware 10.1, but my entire system had become
relatively unstable, and I believe I've narrowed it down to the agpgart
module.
I have a custom 2.4.30 kernel that has DRM enabled and agpgart and
radeon compiled as modules. My board is an ASUS A7N8X-X (nForce2
chipset) and my video card is a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 8X.

When I modprobe for agpgart, I get the following:

/lib/modules/2.4.30/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o: init_module:
Input/output error
/lib/modules/2.4.30/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o: Hint: insmod
errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid
IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.30/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.30/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.30/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o: insmod agpgart
failed

Digging further into dmesg, I find:

> dmesg | grep drm

[drm] AGP 0.99 Aperture @ 0xd0000000 128MB
[drm] Initialized radeon 1.7.0 20020828 on minor 0
[drm] AGP 0.99 Aperture @ 0xd0000000 128MB
[drm] Initialized radeon 1.7.0 20020828 on minor 1

.... and ....

> dmesg | grep agpgart

Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439M
agpgart: Detected NVIDIA nForce2 chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xd0000000

Any ideas as to why agpgart won't load? I've tried googling, but turned
up nothing that is very helpful at all.

Thanks!
