BTW Why don't other news readers have the same problem? If your news reader is broke then you need to fix your problem not have everyone else do it for you. That's what I would do. This is a internet usenet group, you have to take the text as it comes. -- Tayo'y Mga Pinoy |

The "corner" in question is using > uuencode-like text for a message that is in fact flat text. Who's "deliberately try to break things" I am only marking the beginning of my posts. You're using an inappropriate syntax, the "begin" tag, that comes from a pretty specific source, the old uuencode attachment formats. You're neglecting to put in the name or type of the expected attachment file, you're neglecting to put in an end tag, and performing other little breakages. Why don't other news readers have the same problem? If your news reader is broke then you need to fix your problem not have everyone else do it for you. That's what I would do. That's nice. Let's see, there are maybe two people on Usenet that I've noticed doing this, and so far as I know they have no techinical investment in doing their responses this way. There are many millions of installed copies of Windows and its matching mail clients, which are admittedly way over-aggressive in trying to decode attachments and URL's and things but which many of their users have gotten used to and the upgrade process to repair it is lengthy, painful, and risky. Which do you think will be easier to do? This is a internet usenet group, you have to take the text as it comes. Hey, if you want to communicate and be heard by an audience that will guarenteed contain newbies, you have to speak a language they'll understand. For me, it's merely pesky when I read from home on my games machine. For others, it'll keep them from seeing any responses you write. You choose whether the rather odd syntax of your replies is more important to you than having your document read by some folks. |

Nico! Already pointed out to your (<nlr9r2-7en.ln1@news.heiming.de>) in this thread that there's an update announced to fix the bug available from M$ for your beloved Outcrap, go get it and stop whining. If upgrading a MTA is so difficult, I'd suggest simply installing a real OS, which comes with dozens working nntp reader, Linux would be my first choice. Who cares about windows? I certainly don't. If they are using a broken news reader so be it. It matters not to me. So why is this my problem. Oh I see it isn't. > > Which do you think will be easier to do? > > This is a internet usenet group, you have to take the text as it comes. > > Hey, if you want to communicate and be heard by an audience that will > guarenteed contain newbies, you have to speak a language they'll understand. > For me, it's merely pesky when I read from home on my games machine. Again it doesn't matter one hoot to me. If they can not read my post they can ignore it or fix the bastardized news reader. Which one they do I care not. It is only pure ascii text is it not? What? *OF COURSE* it's a syntax, it's a format for sending information, just as sentences, paragraphs, MIME attachments, and email headers all have their own syntax. And they're all still ASCII, despite the attempts of some to push it to Unicode. Who cares about windows? I certainly don't. If they are using a broken news reader so be it. It matters not to me. So why is this my problem. Oh I see it isn't. Then people you may wish to speak with, such as newbies to Linux who need help, will have difficulty reading what you write. Again it doesn't matter one hoot to me. If they can not read my post they can ignore it or fix the bastardized news reader. Which one they do I care not. I speak the language I know which here is Philippine English. If it doesn't matter one hoot to you, then why are you writing anything in the first place? If you didn't care at all, you wouldn't write anything. Now, if you cared a teeny tiny bit about helping other people easily read your material, you'd use a different line for demarking the beginning of your responses, as almost all other NNTP clients do. You're the one whose responses will not be seen. |

Can you point me to the place that has the documentation that it is forbiden to start your post with begin? Perhaps an RFC will do. > > Who cares about windows? I certainly don't. You usually make more sense than this. I've let you know of a problem in your email that will interfere with plenty of Linux newbies or people like myself who use multiple OS's seeing your content. You can choose to be snide and righteous about how "right" your way of posting is, or not, but using the kind of "begin" statement for your responses will continue to interfere with your legibility. |
