Default About RAC on single Node

Hi All,

I am planning to setup [ for testing purpose ] RAC on my desktop on
normal/default
segate harddrive of 40 gb.

I am using RHEL 3.0. I want to know

o Is it possible to install RAC on my desktop machine using OCFC ?
o If yes, Can we up the both instance on same time.

Thanks,
Js

Check out the docs at www.dizwell.com on this subject. I think you
will need a second hard drive. Oracle also has info on how to do this
using vmware.

Google is your friend.

Do you mean OCFS? I would suggest, instead, you implement ASM. You can
download a paper on how to do this at www.psoug.org (see ASM White
Paper).

What do you mean by "up the both instance"?

Thanks to all for prompt reply.

DA Morgan -- Yes, I meant OCFS. Up both the instance -- I heard from
some one that we can not start both instance at same time. For that we
need
shared storage like [SAN,EMC] or on single node where can have normal
disk which does not support to write on single OS block by two
processes.

What is diff. in OCFS or ASM.

-- Can you pls. suggest me from where I should start step by step

Single node or 100 nodes you MUST have shared storage which means
you MUST use RAW devices, or OCFS, or another cluster file system
such as NetApp's or Veritas.

OCFS is a file system. ASM is, in a sense, managed raw devices
though ASM is much much more than just that. I'd suggest you
read up on ASM at http://tahiti.oracle.com.
