Default Startup Script Disabling oratab file

What does this Group think of a DBA that comments out the entries in
the oratab file
and writes his own startup script that embeds the names of each
instance that needs
to come up.

He says that the oratab file is no longer used by oracle 10

Perhaps this person is smart enough to realize that there are
potentially big problems in the approach where you automatically start
oracle up when a server re-boots by looking at the oratab entries.

How exactly Joel do you find the links and quotes that often accompany
your postings.

The one above is kind of cruel but still funny with my guesstimates of
the average age ( not getting any younger here myself ) of many of the
people that respond here frequently!
