Default Problem with sendmail... Can somebody help an NT guy with UNIX?

Here is my situation, so any help would be appreciated:

I've got a SCO 5.0.5 OpenServer running sendmail version 8.8.8. The
server was originally configured for domain abc.com, but I recently
had to change it to xyz.com.

When mail is sent like below:

Echo "test" | mail –s "test email" "user@otherdomain.com"

The recipient is still root@ethel.abc.com. I changed the network
stack and the –bd mail switch gave me this:

Version 8.8.8
Compiled with: LDAPMAP LOG MATCHGECOS MIME7TO8 MIME8TO7 NAMED_BIND
NDBM
NETINET NETUNIX NEWDB NIS QUEUE SCANF SMTP USERDB
XDEBUG

============ SYSTEM IDENTITY (after readcf) ============
(short domain name) $w = ethel
(canonical domain name) $j = ethel.xyz.com
(subdomain name) $m = xyz.com
(node name) $k = ethel
================================================== ======

root... Recipient names must be specified

Sendmail has the following entry:

# who I masquerade as (null for no masquerading)
DMyetanotherdomain.com

And my aliases file looks like this:

MAILER-DAEMON: Postmaster
Postmaster: root
cron: root
uucp: root
fred: root
root: admin@otherdomain.com

And what point is this post? They are using OSR505 which vastly pre-dates
any of this IP crap.
