| I am attempting to set up a new RAID under OpenServer 5, image over the data from the old array (which is currently on its last leg), and finally pull the old array with minimal downtime. I have the new array already initialized and set up on the ADAC RAID controller. I can't seem to get mkdev hd to address it properly. It either errors out or addresses the wrong drive. Is there an easier way? |

Is there an easier way? You probably don't want to image transfer an array. For that matter, image transfers in general aren't generally a good idea (given that there are circumstances where they do make sense). I'd just use one of the Supertars to transfer your data: http://aplawrence.com/Unixart/supertatrs.html But your next question is too vague. What OS (OSR5 tells us very little). What did you actually do here - hardware, software, etc. See http://aplawrence.com/newtosco.html and pay attention to the section on how to ask useful questions. What it sounds like is that you've setup a second array off the same controller? I guess you might be able to make that work, though I'm not sure about how fussy the controller logic is going to be about moving things around, so I think the Supertar approach is cleaner and quicker: you'd have been done with it by now. -- tony@aplawrence.com Unix/Linux/Mac OS X resources: http://aplawrence.com Get paid for writing about tech: http://aplawrence.com/publish.html |
