Hi, I've got a Compaq Server Proliant ML370 G2 (pentium III, with DAT tape, scsi RAID drive and IDE cdrom) and I have to install SCO OpenServer 5.0.4. -->I have a sco backup cd installation. During the process, I've got the message below : System error 2 while opening file /cdromFS/opt/archives/VOL.000.000 So I tried to change the boot string and .... nothing else. -->But i think the media is broken... (I can't try it under another PC ;-)) -->i've got 3 tapes (backup of the same server made by the owner of the ML370) : /dev/u /dev/root and /dev/boot but i haven't the diskette emergency ; just the standard diskette boot. ***> So what is the best solution : install linux and try to use my backup tapes to restore the system? Or hardware problem? bootstring problem? Best regards and thanks, Betan P.S. : It's the first time I use tape and OSR. P.P.S. : a good link, http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread..../58/qid/719477 |

I >spend a lot of time trying to solve this big problem. You know, I've looked over your entire thread at tek-tips and still don't understand your situation. Some questions that really need answering: This Compaq you have: if that's a RAID, have you already configured that using the Compaq CD? This 5.0.4 SCO CD you have: is it an original or a copy (in one of your posts you said you have "a backup cd"). Have you tested that CD by installing it on some other system? Have you tried replacing the IDE CDROM? Or putting it on the secondary controller if it is now on primary? These things can be bad.. Do you still have the original system? If so, your best move is to go back to that and use a Supertar as I suggested in another post: See http://aplawrence.com/Reviews/supertars.html and http://aplawrence.com/Unixart/supertarxfer.html -- tony@aplawrence.com Unix/Linux/Mac OS X resources: http://aplawrence.com Get paid for writing about tech: http://aplawrence.com/publish.html |
