Default Setting up a dot matrix printer in Slack 9.1

I am trying to set up a Panasonic KX-P2123 dot matrix printer for use on
my Slack 9.1 machine with the LPRng sub-system.

I used the apsfilter setup to create my /etc/printcap entry, and
specified it as a generic PS printer.

lp
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
:rw:lp=/dev/lp0
:sh:mx=0:mc=0

Whenever I print to the printer from the Slack box it works fine.

But if I print the same document from Windows via Samba, I get part of
the document printed normally, and the rest is binary garbage. The
document prints again (automagically) and then the printer freezes up.

I've fixed up the permission problems I had with /var/spool/lpd &
/var/spool/lpd/lp (1722)

I'm guessing this is more of a Samba problem than a printcap/apsfilter
problem.

My Samba disk shares work fine.

Any ideas what might be wrong with my setup? Thanks for any tips.

Here's my smb.conf file (configured with SWAT):

[global]
encrypt passwords = Yes
name resolve order = host bcast
dns proxy = No
hosts allow = 192.168. 127.
printing = lprng

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
valid users = %S
read only = No

[storage]
comment = Data Directories
path = /storage

[printers]
path = /var/spool/samba
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
printable = Yes
print command = lpr -r -P%p %s
use client driver = Yes
browseable = No
