Default slackware 9.1 iso - How do I burn from Easy CD Creator to install from CD...

I have an md5sum checked copy of 5 files as follows:

slackware-9.1-install-d1.iso
slackware-9.1-install-d1.iso.asc.txt*
slackware-9.1-install-d1.iso.md5.txt*
slackware-9.1-install-d1.torrent.txt*
slackware-9.1-install-d2.iso
slackware-9.1-install-d2.iso.asc.txt*
slackware-9.1-install-d2.iso.md5.txt*
slackware-9.1-install-d2.torrent.txt*

I md5sum'd the files against a mirror site and the iso files checked
out. I don't have a CD burner on my linux box, so I burned the 2 iso
files (creating an image file) to two CDs using Easy CD Creator.

I have a box with 2 hard drives, one drive is Mandrake linux 9.1
(upgraded). The other is Windows XP. I want to be able to download iso
files, then create 2 CDs from those iso files in Windows xp (Easy CD
Creator) and then boot into the CDs and partition, format and install
slackware directly from those CDs on my linux box.

1. Did I burn the CDs correctly with Easy CD Creator?
2. How do I install the iso files from the CDs?

Thank you,
Rory Jakes

I don't use windows, but you want to burn the ISO's as an image.
Don't burn them as a file or you will see the ISO file on disc
instead of it's contents. You should be able to see all the files
on the discs in windows after the burn.

No, I don't think you did.

You simply need to Use the File|Brun Image option (or equivelent) in
Easy CD. That will read the ISO file and burn it directly to CD.

Boot your PC with them in your CD drive, making sure that you can boot
from the CD, and then just followo the instructions on the screen.

burn the ISOs - make sure you're burning them as an image, and not as a
file - and then boot from it. Make sure you set your bios to boot from
CD first, of course.

If it doesn't boot (IE, skips the CDs and boots directly to windows)
download the bare.i boot disk (I'm assuming you have a standard IDE
interface for your drives, nothing exotic - if not, choose the
appropriate bootdisk - *.i is for ide, *.s is scsi) and then the root
disks, and boot normally.

No. The way to do it is create a data cd project, then go file>record cd
from cd image, change the file type to "iso image files" and select the file
slackware-9.1-install-dx.iso. (Or, a simpler way is to just double-click the
file in windows explorer.) Select the burning options in the next dialog and
burn it, then repeat for the other .iso file. If you've done it right, the
first cd should have, amongst others, a file called filelist.txt in the
root. Check all the files in that list are present, and you may want to
verify them with the file checksums.md5, also in the root of the cd.

First, set up your bios to boot from CD before hd. Then you should be able
to install by turning on your computer with the first disk in the drive.
If that doesn't work, look at the file bootdisks/readme.txt for information
on how to use a floppy disk to start the installation.

MickeyD,

I have tried on 4 different CDs with Easy CD Creator and Nero. Neither
works. I knew I should have gotten a whole set of directories and
files. I have tried to burn and IMAGE file by double-clicking, saving
as an image file. I do have a Slackware 9.0 disk that my instructor in
my Unix class gave me with the correct directory structure. I don't
know why I can't get this to work!

I will keep trying.

If you downloaded the ISO's in windows you need to download them
in binary format. If you downloaded them in ASCII format you may
need to download them again.

No problemo.
In Windows:-
1. Download the .iso file Ideally use an ftp client such as Smart FTP
2. Start Easy CD Creator
3. Skip the wizards, from the menu select File, Create CD from Image.
Change the file type to ISO and locate the .iso file you've just
downloaded. Then just OK and burn.
4. Insert CD in PC and boot from it - install slackware etc

There's no saving as involved.
I'm more familiar with nero. In nero, the way to do it is to open nero,
close the new cd dialog box, and go file>write image, then select the image
file.
Don't ever start any type of cd, make sure the only window you have is the
file browser one.

If that was the problem the md5s would have come out wrong.
