Not going to hurt friend's box.
You could use tomsrtb on the XP machine. I'm sure XP supports PLIP, but
couldn't tell you how to access it. Ask the little puppy. (then kick it).
I'm sure they have a different name for it.

Being as tomsrtbt is the best repair/rescue disk ever, and I can't imagine
running Linux without it, you could start by getting that done.
Is easy.

Good work, although I seem to have missed something along the way.

You could start with describing what you did. Clarifications would be the
next step :-)

ahh i see. ok, basically, i used some old dos disks fdisk the hdd so that
msdos had a little enough partition to be useable. installed it into 150
megs(not that it needed the room but it was for holding the packages)moved
packages onto msdos partition. booted slack used the "install from another
partition" option on the source tab et cetera et cetera. that went better
than i thought. i am only struggling with x at the moment but there is
really no point except i want to use blackbox for messing around. cant
figure the xserver out so that will be my next struggle. i think i fought
with 100 floppies , too. patience patience patience any help on the xserver
would be nice but i know"RTFM"

What are you trying to accomplish with the xserver? Are you just trying
to set X and get it configured? If so, try typing "X -configure" (no
quotes) on the command line. X will have a basic configuration.

Gottya. Grassyass

The main thing with the xserver is choosing the right one, I believe.

You might want to try openbox (2.x that is), it's based on blackbox.

The RTFM part is,
1)you need to find out the exact Hozrizontal and Vertical
refresh-rate-ranges of your monitor.
2)you need to find out which driver your videocard uses.

If you have the manual from your monitor it should help with 1, google
will help with both.

Once you have accumulated that information, run `xf86config`
