I'll look into it. thanks. i've only tried windowmaker once, quite some time ago, but i'm pretty sure it allowed me to create short-cut keys. FYI the method is usually a bit different than with KDE. with KDE (IIRC) you can define short-cut keys for menu items and desktop icons. that's not how it works with the average wm. usually, there is one place to set short-cut keys, where you simply say which command to run when certain keys are pressed. -- Joost Kremers since when is vi an editor? a discussion on vi belongs in comp.tools.unusable or something... ;-) |

Nope. It's done by people with a bit of consideration. It's really ridiculous to post saying you've killfiled someone, because if they reply, you can't read it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 6.5.8ckt http://www.hn.org/drno/pgp.shtml iQA/AwUBP5z7K7HlcSptAz1hEQKbHwCg79fWpsPSowyy/aN4eqfLjnKZNJMAnRzK YITCrmZremjVYLmxlazC6f9I =rT7f -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hmm. I thought Enigmail automatically exported my key to that server when I first created it a few days ago. I just sent it manually. Check to see if it's at wwwkeys.pgp.net. It has caused me so many problems in Linux that I now refuse to use it. I've decided to try it later when it is a bit more stable. I heartily recommend Enigmail, though. It generates your key and automagically verifies keys for you. I'm going to switch to slrn and mutt eventually, but enigmail + Mozilla is a decent alternative. However, I've decided to switch to KNode and KMail until I get sslrn and mutt working. I know, KMail/KNode the OE of Linux, btut at least the programs work. I use KDE and think it's great. It only impairs one's ability to learn about Linux if you let it. I don't. I have 4 Konsole screens open at all times and do all my sysadmin work with the CLI. It's sensless to limit oneself to a single tool. About the time on my Slack box (9.0). It set itself back! The only clock in the house that did. nb |

I really don't mind doing this twice a year. Takes 5 seconds. And I really DO mind having my computer connect to the Internet without me being in conscious control of the event. I do not linger on the Internet. I connect up with a pile of scripts (using nc,wget, slrnpull, surfraw, mail, ftp, minicom and the like) run them and get off. For instance: I'm writing this now, but it will be quite a while before it is actually uploaded to the newsserver. And I'll be monitoring the interface while that happens. At the same time I'll be bringing down a dozen pages from google with the results of a carefully composed search string, uploading and downloading mail, retrieving some files from an FTP server, downloading several webpages, and sending a file to someone expecting it, whose box will be on the net for a narrow window....(that window determining the time of this particular connection....) This is the dominant security strategy used by myself and my friends, and many other people. Even our servers are only up during scheduled periods, generally very short ones. -- Alan C Post validation at http://tinyurl.com/rv0y |
