| I was trying out virtual machines on top of my main box (running slackware). Runs quite nicely, but either I've been using Slackware (and *BSD) for too long, or the redhat developers are on crack - since when did openssh *require* ldap and *pam* and since when did python *require* XF86? wtf? |

Why would I need sendmail and/or xfs-utils on a non-networked system with ext3 on all its filesystems? - -- Bartosz Oudekerk Play Rogue, visit exotic locations, meet strange creatures and kill them. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/oB6N256ZyNYAOpkRAuqPAKCXl7wHbuXpkWAaHkclUkDVEQDNVQ CeOCtj rPcarAcav4WTEuBR5Dpbv74= =fSP1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

The RedHat devs are on crack, not to worry. The problem with all binary distros is you end up with crazy dependencies. The binary package of OpenSSH was built, in this case, against LDAP and PAM, so users of the package could utilize both features. Making the package able to utilize the feature automagically means the package must depend upon that feature now. Ditto with Python - they built the XF86 version of Python, so users would have the option of using the XF86 side of things, but then that automagically means Python has to depend on XFree86. Slackware runs in to some similar problems, you just don't run in to them as often as the packages all work without those other things unless you start having missing library issues. -- Rob | If not safe, Email and Jabber: | one can never be free. athlonrob at axpr dot net | -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/oCT7hm6KEoOOAe0RAp8SAKCSLkGJpNjgUBh20M5WT9zbOJshHg CfZzoE 2Y1CV9LrZPfnD3yBtOiqQwA= =58TJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Yep, I knew all that I was just making passing comment > Slackware runs in to some similar problems, you just don't run in to > them as often as the packages all work without those other things unless > you start having missing library issues. that's why I like source packages |

The Redhat developers _are_ on crack, and have probably sent their engineers on one too many 'more is better' speeches! :-) A. - -- KeyId 0x70CBA69C | Open PGP keyserver http://keyserver.stinkfoot.org Andy McDowell - /etc + vim; the twin pillars of linux civilization. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: FPR:F259 AE63 D3C7 E1DE CC79 FFC4 B9CD 09D6 70CB A69C iQEVAwUBP6EYibnNCdZwy6acAQJ+sggAi1JeTDMFktjtaQotV5 bC13VkljiAN+Ej ZP/CKLfJB0LH5BoseY8O2YC0RJNl7N2yzv48wZoPjfeTI04Bnk+Bc Lyy3vuTwJaY 3A1zEmcRk0EXBeGhp+0lVL6vIXeSN1n2T2W7f/J7HfrlYSvp6wdhZkkeeS8iZM0d t+sk83kFG3jAX3S2GPPSJls/ot0qTX+iTVSE3ULX/PF75Wyvq8pgZZySv3uI1Gpa VSVCzPnXBrkM/sqg3hRccl06XlDWfUaaiOiP+PRVvKqMs51bTrpjsLpKg8b05mk w Jx/w0DlT51iV4wqtpFXXNKJ8PFIVS2ckFs275jiF00dUmdAHokpKh Q== =g7SU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
