Default slack and ssl

is ssl for apache supposed to be enabled by default in slack?
i can't seem to get a https connection.

ssl.conf exsists.
ssl directories are filled with files.
/usr/sbin/apachectl startssl is not kicking

i know that some of the other distos have ssl running by default.
how does slack behave?
