I'm just wonderring what everyone else is using ... Currently I'm using
Netscape (ya, I know, it sucks) and it doesn't support 'ignoring' users
or threads or really much of anything ... I guess I'd like to be able to
support the PGP/GPG bit in case I decide to start using that as well ...

Anyhow ... I guess text mode would be favorable ... Eventually I want to
set up a DNS/mail/proxy (and all that other stuff) server for my home
network and, once I'm out of school, I'll probably only get into X for
games and what not. Thanks in advance.

I use slrn to read the news retrieved and stored by slrnpull, which is
really just a small newsserver.

It's just ACE. Easy to set up and use. Be happy to help you with the
configuration.

It is a matter of taste.

Here are some of the most popular newsreaders used in this group: [1]

slrn
Mozilla
Pan
KNode
tin
Gnus
mutt
pine
Sylpheed

[1] Based on the last ten days of posts, (roughly 1330).

You can find a long list of Linux news clients at
<URL:http://www.newsreaders.com/unix/clients.html>

Another way of finding out what people use is to look at their headers.
(Specifically the User-Agent: and X-Newsreader: lines).

Everyone has their personal fave. If you're on Linux, you'll always have
plenty of quality choices. For me, Pan rocks. http://pan.rebelbase.com/

Unreal Tournament 2003 rips along on Slackware 9.1. Beats Red Hat 9.0 for
FPS, 'straight outta the box' that is.

Obi.
