Default Thank you

For all the feedback........I hate windows....and am looking forward to
setting up my linux........will be browsing the links for help on my
modem....failing that shall go out and buy one.......
Called two pc shops in town today, both could not give me any advice as to
what modem would work with my linux

Simple, just ask for a modem to connect to your serial port (not the USB
port). Can't go wrong with them as the tech is old and settled.

Any external modem will work. That is the only thing to be sure of.
Some internals work fine, some kinda work enough to really piss you
off, and some won't work at all.. If you can find an older internal
ISA modem, that should work to, but to be safe, get an external.

The easiest way (IMHO) to make sure a modem works with Linux is to buy
an external one, which connects to a serial port. That type of modem
will be a hardware modem, and shouldn't need any specific drivers. After
running pppsetup, [1] you should be able to connect to the 'net with it.

[1] There's some info on ppsetup in the Slackware book.

Your's does or so i belive, at least the URL i gave you in your other
thread called "help" did. HSP56 MR. modems do work according to that URL.

nor would you want their advice, what does a sales associate would know
anyways? They are there to sell you extended waranties which you do not
need. They are trained very well in that area, indeed.
