Default Kernel 2.4.23 , Hotplug, ALSA

Hello

I use Slackware 9.1 (+Dropline Gnome) and i updated my kernel to
2.4.23, but i have this problem, Hotplug is not making /proc/asound/*
for my Sound Blaster Live, of course, 2.4.22 works fine. Anyway,
rc.alsa try to lookup that dir to setup stuff but it doesn't work of
course.

Even if i run 'alsaconf' it can't detect my card, really weird.
I did a 'make oldconf' while updating kernel, so it should be no
problem at all, and i know that because if i modprobe the emu10k1 alsa
modules, my card works perfectly, so hotplug must be the problem.

Any tips, ideas would be apreciated

I'd uninstall hotplug & modprobe the correct module(s) for my sound
card from /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.

When you upgrade the kernel you have to uninstall and reinstall
the alsa packages.

RTFFAQ...

Alsa isn't in 2.4.23, you need to go get it and install it yourself.

Yes, but what if pgp isn't installed correctly? Can't that make
everything unsecure? And wouldn't that in turn make you insecure?

Could you please turn pgp on only when you need it? Show the rest
of us a little consideration?

cordially, as always,

So would I. This is Slackware, get rid of that hotplug crap and
configure the system yourself. Then you will know what is happening.

Actually only the alsa-driver package has to be reinstalled, since it's
the only one that creates modules for the kernel in use.

But will it work in the case of a kernel upgrade, or only in a lateral
move to another 2.4.22 kernel? I'd think it would need to be recompiled.

Hello

Yeah, i forget that part, i'm so stupid, it's just that i have been
testing kernel 2.6 and ALSA is there so i had no problems, but i
prefer to be in 2.4 stable, anyway, my mistake! i hope it works, i'm
building slack packages for new ALSA.

THANKS!!!
