Default missing extensions?

I'm just curious, what do these messages mean:

bash-2.05b$ Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":2.0".

bash-2.05b$ Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":2.0".

I was running vnc on display 2 and when I load gftp (for the "RENDER") and
knode (for the "GLX").

They mean something is trying to use an extention - kinda like an added
feature? ... of X that your X session doesn't support. In the snipped
paragraph, you mentioned VNC - VNC's X server really doesn't support a
whole ton of special things ... well ... it doesn't support any special
things... so these extentions simply aren't there.

I *think* GLX has to do with OpenGL type graphics, and would guess
RENDER might, too... rendering 3D stuffs? Got me, but if you're really
curious, I'll bet google knows... Google knows everything.

One way to see which extensions you have is to use "xdpyinfo".

Yes, I can confirm that. GLX is OpenGL in X, this could be with or
without hardware acceleration (DRI or direct rendering). There is also a
program called "glxinfo" which tells you some info about your GLX
capabilities.

Cool, thanks guys. Should I worry about the extensions missing?

What about the pgp "extention?"

The unwarranted use of pgp is a violation of usenet netiquette. We
ask that you refrain from such use unless absolutely necessary.

cordially, as always,
