I'm following their FAQ to point to the properplace for the ssl libraries.
My problem is the Mozilla 1.4 from the slack package doesn't have the nss
and nspr folders. I tried installing Mozilla 1.5, still don't have them. I
downloaded the source for Mozilla 1.4 and compiled it and still don't have
those folders. I tried downloading NSS but it contains some foles but not
those two folders. Where am I supposed to get them from? Anyone else try
it?

I've never had problems with gaim and msn. I've upgraded gaim a twice to
0.72 and just last night to 0.74 from linuxpackages.net.

All I had to do was add /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4 to ld.so.conf

Default slackware 9.1 install.

Incidentally, the FAQ specifically states that this doesn't work with
Mozilla 1.5.

This is with a new install of slack 9.1 with the the 1.4 install from the
slack packages. The path mozilla is in is /usr/local/lib so I added that
as well. I configure gaim and it says no SSL libraries. when I make and
run it I get the error that ssl is not installed.

This is on a new install of Slack 9.1. According to gaims faq its due to
the ssl libraries being in a non default location. I edited the ld.so.conf
like they said and it didn't help. I tried the confgiure switched like
they mentioned and it didn't help either. I look in the paths that they
list on the configure switches and I don't have the nss directory.

My build of Mozilla-{1.4, 1.5, 1.6a, 1.6b} has the
/usr/include/nss and /usr/include/nspr folders included in the
package.

I don't like depending on nss and mozilla, so I just build gaim without
that, using the gnutls libraries:

That IS odd. It worked perfectly for me, also on a Slack 9.1 install.

Incidentally, I have no nss or nspr folders, but I do have

libnspr4.so
libnss3.so
libnssckbi.so

in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4

if you have KDE installed, try getting kopete ( kopete.kde.org ). that
runs perfectly for me using msn.

Same happened for me. What I did is use the alternative SSL support they
listed. That is, download and install from source: libgpg-error 0.5,
libgcrypt 1.1.44, libtasn1 0.2.6, gnutls 0.9.94 since 0.9.91 is no longer
available. Then recompile gaim (make sure it's a recent version) and it
works fine.
