Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post,

1) I installed the alsa drivers and the ad1980 sound card now works,
2) the network card does not work (the module provided by Asus does not
load), but I'll try again later
3) I enabled the usb-uhci module and now usb works

however,
a) the Epson Stylus C64 Photo is only supported with gimp-print 4.2.6 or
later, while I have 4.2.5;
b) the Epson Perfection 1670 is only supported with sane-1.0.13, while I
have 1.0.12;
do you know if Pat is going to release an update of these two packages?

For upgrades, either:

try swaret (in /extra on disk 2)
or, google for the new gimp-print, and compile it from source, make a
package with checkinstall. If you need line-by line, once downloaded and
extracted and cd'd into extracted directory:

# ./configure
# make
# checkinstall

the point is: the latest gimp-print is 4.2.6-rc2, so I'd better wait a few
days...

for sane: I just saw it is available at linuxpackages.net,

This will make a pgp package. The trick is, you don't need to install it.

Please refrain from using pgp unless absolutely necessary.
