| My laptop has a 700/550 pIII cpu in it running Slackware 9.1 but it only seems to be running at 550mhz. Since the battery is screwed and it is only run off the mains is there any setting in Linux to get it to run at 700mhz?? Thanks Hugh -- /* Hugh Lutley aKa Spewy * This message was created on either * Aurora 1.0 Linux on Sparcstation 20 <- 2 sm71 SuperSparc, 192mb ram -> * Mandrake 9.2 Linux on Athlon XP <- Gnome 2.4 rulez KDE -> * Slackware 9.1 Linux on PIII <- Command line rulez -> * NO GOING BACK TO WINDOWS THIS TIME!!!!!!! */ (created in ViM) |

If that value is wrong, you should go into your bios (which is different for each machine/laptop) and try to find out where it reports ITS speed for the cpu, Linux is getting it from there (and only the bios will know how to change it). -- ************************************************** ****************** ** Eef Hartman, Delft University of Technology, dept. Either of those options will give you cpufreq support in the kernel, which will allow you to dynamically set the speed of the processor via a nice /proc or /sys interface, with user-land utilities available to set it based on CPU load. It's good stuff. Note if it is a Dell laptop, you may be unable to use any but the acpi drivers to change the CPU speed. I'm not sure exactly why and those who do know exactly why seem to be bound by Dell and/or Intel NDAs. -- Rob | If not safe, Email and Jabber: | one can never be free. athlonrob at axpr dot net | -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/4ji+hm6KEoOOAe0RAubhAJ9NH+H3qpp/EPfmJWkKU58MoZEqDACgqfbk h6lEKTA0wEquIwQnmf5pUQE= =Uy87 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
