Seems pretty zippy! For some odd reason my mouse moves much faster, as if I turned up the sensitivity but I made no such change. So far so good! DB |

Worked fine except the whole thing hung when I shut X down. Also, the sound quality was dreadful using the ALSA drivers included in the kernel. I've got a via8233 soundcard. Has anyone experienced these problems? Presumably they will be fixed in the fullness of time. |

| I felt the same thing with one of the -tests, but I'm holding off installing 2.6 until they fix that pre-empt bug... Worked fine except the whole thing hung when I shut X down. I would imagine such problems will be solved fairly soon when nVidia releases their next driver set for Linux, likely with 2.6.0 support. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened fairly soon, too. They released the 52.xx series under Windows a few months ago.. we can't be too far behind. > Also, the sound quality was dreadful using the ALSA drivers included in the > kernel. I've got a via8233 soundcard. You might google about a little bit, and if nothing turns up, ask on the alsa-user mailing list (at alsa-project.org). There's probably something you can do somewhere along the line to improve that sound quality. I think the OSS drivers *are* still in the kernel tree, as well, if you can't get ALSA working properly for you. FWIW, on my nForce and i8x0 boards, sound quality increased using Alsa instead of OSS. Dramatically on both. -- Rob | If not safe, Email and Jabber: | one can never be free. athlonrob at axpr dot net | -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/40t+hm6KEoOOAe0RAkulAJwPDr3ovziiR2fw3SiSj6nu3Ot3Lg Cg+h5v F69paZvHTPWX3j6ErK98y/Y= =R6PO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I found it worked fine with alsa 0.9.8 from www.alsa-project-org, except when I turned the volume up. Quality was dreadful over about 80% mixer volume. Solution: turn down mixer volumes, turn up computer speakers. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/42qOseVxKm0DPWERAsGjAKC7MRPsYSsrn6m0TCKQWLcmPjNsNw Cg6jv6 R38PtE/m/uGi+M4riWrYfUA= =SNIq -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

In any case, the unwarranted use of pgp violates this newsgroups policy and we ask that you show some respect for other posters by dispensing with the use of pgp in the future. cordially, as always, rm |
