Default who is user "smmsp"?

Can anyone tell me who -user- "smmsp" is? This user runs "sendmail"? I don't
have user smmsp, the only users are myself, "deamon" and "root".

that's a dummy user set up to run sendmail. he's part of the
sendmail package. it's a security measure to allow strict file permissions,
and a second line of defense against the risk of sendmail security being cracked.

He's been around since Wed May 8 23:03:11 PDT 2002 when this entry
showed up in the Changelog:
:New Entry: a/etc-5.0-i386-2.tgz: Added smmsp and pop to /etc/shadow.

Try to do a 'su' and as root run 'less /etc/shadow' to see how many
users you've got.
