I KNOW my modem will not find the dialtone even if it's there as when the telco changed to a digital exchange a few years back every modem in town stopped dialing if it had 'wait for dialtone' turned on. what now? } > ethernet card for my local network (I've been running 2 or 3 PC's } } netconfig yeah man, required a reboot though there is probably a way to force the eth0 module to load? anyhow, jumped to the wife's Win95 box and told IE to fetch the web page and it worked! I'm impressed (-: except the default index was in heiroglyphs and I had to copy index.html.en to index.html to get english. but so cool to have my own web server (-: } > - how to reinstall my 2.3Gb disk with Win95 on it and set up for dual } > boot, and also tell Linux how to access the 2nd drive as a FAT32 } > partition. I cannot at this time lose Win95 entirely, but my plan is } > to do that, in the meantime, I need to boot Linux and access the data } > on the other drive. ok, some notes on this that will help someone..... note that I installed Linux on a single drive using all the space (with a 64meg swap partition). I then reconnected my drive containing Windows95a as the primary slave and did the stuff } For booting win98 } put it in as Primary slave and add these lines to /etc/lilo.conf } } # DOS bootable partition config begins } other = /dev/hdb1 } label = win98 } table = /dev/hdb } # DOS bootable partition config ends } } Then run } lilo and rebooted. got the correct menu, but selecting Win to boot got me a 'invalid boot disk, replace and pres any key' type of message (like an unformatted drive) the solution was found in 'man lilo', I needed the drive swap stuff so now my /etc/lilo.conf is # Linux bootable partition config begins image = /vmlinuz root = /dev/hda1 label = Linux read-only # Linux bootable partition config ends # DOS bootable partition config begins other = /dev/hdb1 label = WIN95 table = /dev/hdb map-drive=0x80 to=0x81 map-drive=0x81 to=0x80 # DOS bootable partition config ends presto, it boots ok..... as evidenced by my typing this as I'm using Free Agent... } Know your hardware and run } xf86config yah, tried that.... SuperSnoop or whatever it is foudn my card ok as S3 Trio3d/2x but I don't see that in the database of card types in XF86Config. I made what I thought were reasonable choces except for that, and 'startx' aborts at what seems to be near the end of it's startup process. can't recall the exact message now though. so, I'll be reading all the howtos I can find and see.... maybe Ineed to load the latest FX86? } > thanks for any help } } You are welcome } } mRgOBLIN I thank you again, much appreciated.....
