Maybe rather than dodgy memory it's the mobo. A quick search on google reveals that your motherboard has a VIA chipset. Motherboards with VIA chipsets are overrepresented with this kind of random problems and strange behaviors with some hardware. regards Henrik -- The address in the header is only to prevent spam. Really? Mine runs fine in slack, although it does require me to reinstall the secondary IDE controller every time I reboot into windoze. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE//x1xseVxKm0DPWERAmMcAJ9AeVnGkpfIpjKO87qfehLG/BhOBACghTpl aLQIAR1tWUTBjWUs7q21p7k= =siZK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I used to have issues with my old board (ALI chipset IIRC) and my nVidia video card but those have disappeared now. Ross |

Yep, a quick search at google groups with the string '"via chipset problem"' gives 665 hits which contains the phrase "via chipset problem" at http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%2...set+problem%22 Replacing via in the url above with ali gives 53 hits, intel gives 45 hits, sis gives 23hits and nvidia gives 5 hits. The numbers above indicates that nvidia seems to be very good chipsets, but then you should remember that nvidia hasn't been doing chipsets for very long and don't have many users who has been asking questions in usenet news. Via with 665 hits is really overrepresented with chipset problems. > Mine runs fine in slack, although it does require me to > reinstall the secondary IDE controller every time I reboot into windoze. Maybe you are lucky enough to have avoided any hardware that might give problem with some via chipsets. However, it still sounds as if you have some strange problems sometimes. I can't tell for sure if it would help to replace your motherboard to a board with another chipset. regards Henrik -- The address in the header is only to prevent spam.
